This year Ruse again hosted the 3D Ace & Game International Festival of Street Art. Eight artists from four countries used the beautiful central square as a stage for their avant-garde optical illusions.
The most colourful and important event in Ruse's culture calendar, the CARNIVAL, took place on 23 June. On St John's Eve, the Little Vienna became a stage for individual and group performances and competitions of ideas, unexpected improvisations and non-standard solutions. The citizens of Ruse yet again witnessed a revived tradition of freedom of expression that used all types of street performance: processions, dance, games, competitions. A day of open spaces in thoughts and dreams! The carnival was immersed in exotic atmosphere created by the ateliers for manufacture of masks and make-up, salsa party and Latino music in the open air. At the end of the event, the sky was lit by colourful fireworks that followed a concert by favourite musicians.
In June, the city hosted the Ruse Rhythm & March Majorette Festival that was a celebratory procession of over 200 participants from Bulgaria and abroad. Batons and pompoms in different combinations created colourful choreographies in the city centre, a true feast for everyone. In the festival's second issue participated internationally awarded troupes from Slovakia and Romania.
Ruse also hosted several events organized for lovers of speed and cars. For a fourth consecutive year, The Vintage Cars Parade attracted a significant number of participants and spectators with its classical automobiles.
In mid-November Ruse opened an ice skating rink that will provide fun for citizens and visitors until mid-February. It is located on St Troitsa Square.
Besides the "City of firsts," Ruse will remain a place that inspires. A place that attracts with its incredible atmosphere, dynamics, freedom. A place that urges the visitor to return again and again, to feel proud of the town. History, traditions and different cultures came together to create timeless symbols, which shape the majestic appearance of Ruse today: an appearance representing the European Renaissance and the Bulgarian Revival Period, with architectural monuments in the style of Baroque, Rococo and Secession.
Simultaneously old and new. Colourful yet classic. Living, inspiring and young.
